Building a greener future with traditional technics

The Institute for Sustainable Architecture promotes sustainable building practices by integrating traditional African architectural techniques with modern design. We believe that by using local materials and revitalizing indigenous methods, we can create environmentally responsible and culturally relevant buildings.

We offer programs for professionals, students, and communities to learn about sustainable construction and contribute to a greener future. Some of our courses are:

  • Rammed earth construction
  • Traditional thatching
  • Compressed earth bricks
  • Neo-adobe construction
  • Mat ceilings

Our research explores the sustainability, climate resilience, and economic viability of these methods. We also engage in community projects to address local needs while providing valuable learning opportunities.

Our work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals by:

  • Promoting sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)
  • Taking climate action (SDG 13)
  • Fostering innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9)
